Global GraphHack

Leading up to our first-ever Neo4j Online Developer Expo and Summit (NODES 2019), we’ve announced Global GraphHack, a 1-month long virtual hackathon.

Hackers of all experience levels are encouraged to participate. This is a great opportunity to connect with and learn from hackers across the world.

Hackers will have four full weeks to work on their project submissions. One week before the live broadcast of Neo4j Online Developer Expo and Summit (NODES 2019), we will publish the projects and allow the global Neo4j community and Neo4j staff to vote on the winners.

Hackers can participate in a number of ways: 

• Hack as individual
• Form their own team with friends or colleagues (up to 4 people per team)
• Form a virtual team with Neo4j community members around the globe

The Theme: "Extending the Graph Ecosystem" 

Your task is to build something using or extending Neo4j that can benefit others in the community.  It can be an extension of something that already exists or something completely new. Code and documentation must be shared and explained how it can be used by others. 

Here are a couple of examples and ideas to get your mind wandering:

• Build react component for GRANDstack.io starter  
• Create Integration with a time-series database.
• Develop a graph app that interacts with Neo4j (ex, Halin Monitoring Tool, Neuler - Graph Algos Playground) 
• Chrome extension that adds value to Neo4j browser
• Build a graph application where others can explore a particular data set, like Hetnet

Prizes:

Community votes + Neo4j staff votes will determine the winning teams. Winners will be announced immediately after the NODES 2019 keynote (featuring Neo4j CEO, Emil Eifrem). 

The top three winning teams receive: 

• Flight and hotel to GraphConnect 2020 in Times Square (max $2000 per person) 
• Free tickets to GraphConnect 2020 in Times Square (includes training sessions)
• Private-access to the invite-only Ecosystem Summit (at GraphConnect)
• Meet-and-greet with one (or more) of the Neo4j Executive Staff
• An invitation to present your project at a dedicated GraphConnect 2020 DevZone session
• Even more visibility by showcasing your work on the Neo4j blog and featured in This Week in Neo4j newsletter

Can’t travel? No problem! We will make sure we have amazing prizes for you, too, and will announce them in the upcoming weeks.

Judging: 

A combination of community votes and a Neo4j panel of judges will determine the winning teams.

Judging criteria (weighted equally) will be based on: creativity, usefulness, completeness, and quality and clarity of written documentation. 

Submitting your Project: 

You can submit your project directly on DevPost. What we ask for you to include in the submission are as follows: 

• Publish the code for your project to GitHub (don’t forget to add a read-me that includes documentation for the project. This should include including instructions for how others can use it).
• Create a 1-2 minute video explaining your project. This can be a screen share or a video of you presenting the project.

Sunday, September 29, 2019 – Deadline for Project Submissions

Tuesday, October 1, 2019 – Community Voting Begins

Wednesday, October 9, 2019 - Community Voting Ends

Thursday, October 10, 2019 – Winners Announced!!!
